Many of us store leftovers while the food is still warm or fresh from cooking. But can you safely put hot food into plastic containers? 🤔
The answer is YES! but with the right habit.
Most food-grade plastic containers are designed for normal everyday food storage and are generally safe to use. However, when food is extremely hot and sealed immediately, heat and steam become trapped inside the container. Over time, repeated exposure to excessive heat may increase wear on the container and is generally not the ideal way to store food.
This does not mean plastic containers are automatically “unsafe” or harmful. The bigger issue is usually how they are used. Very high heat, trapped steam, and immediate sealing can stress the container more than necessary during long-term daily use.
